Random point of reference

Crawl as they might, the tendrils of online content have not yet dug into every nook and cranny of the physical world. Unsurprisingly, 1970s Canadian poetry is one vein that has yet to be mined very deeply. That said, here’s a gem from 1977’s classic Garbage Delight, written by Dennis Lee and illustrated by Frank Newfield.

Comic Casting Silliness

I just stumbled across the apparent foofarah that TV’s Community actor Donald Glover is campaigning for an audition in the upcoming movie reboot of Spider-Man, and he’s (gasp) not white.
I love comic book movie adaptions and I’m a huge Spidey fan, but as much of a geek as I am, I only get hung up on [...]

Quick like a fox

If you’re a fan of either Wes Anderson or Roald Dahl, I recommend you see The Fantastic Mr. Fox. It’s funny, superbly cast, and features a great performance by George Clooney that rivals his work in Oh Brother. Oh, and a great soundtrack, of course. I could watch it again right now.

A dispatch from the Blippleverse

I’ve been using blip.fm for about a year, but recently it has become a full-blown hobby.
It’s basically twitter with music: your feed is a constantly-updating playlist. I like music from all over the spectrum, so the people I listen to have pretty diverse taste. I’m currently listening to 60 people, of whom probably 15 are active [...]

Filthy Lucre

Malcolm McLaren is dead.
Like his protegés, Malcolm often reveled in telling people he was a pimp, a fake, a money-grubbing sleazebag. I have no inclination to contradict that.
I am grateful he was in the right place at the right time to bring the Pistols to fame.
Thanks for that, you filthy rotter.

Why I never became a teacher

I inherited this moldy oldie from my mother (who did become a teacher). If you think Satan’s Trusty Minion on the cover is creepy, you should see the rest of the rogue’s gallery.
Yeesh.
